On a Ford Explorer the fuel filter will be located on the rear part of the truck on the frame most of the time on the driverside but rarely on the passenger side. It will look like a small soda can. You may need a special quick diconnect tool to get it off. This tool slips over the fuel line and you push it into a round peice where the line meets the filter. Then you should be able to pull of the filter while the tool is pushed into that little round peice. If you don't then there will be two clips, one on each end of the filter, and you can just pop it off.

I believe the fuel filter on your 2 door Ford Explorer is underneath the Explorer , below the drivers door , mounted in the frame rail
On a 2002 Ford Explorer , 4.0 liter V6 engine : With engine oil filter change : ( 5.0 U.S. quarts / 4.7 liters of 5W-30 )
With engine oil filter change ( 4.7 liters of engine oil ) for the 4.0 liter SOHC , V6 engine in a 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
From 1996 to 2001 the Ford Explorer V8 engine was a 5.0 L and it takes 5 quarts ( 4.7 liters ) with filter change - Ford started using the 4.6 L - SOHC - V8 engine in the re-designed 2002 Ford Explorer
