Answer 1997 Grand Jeep Cherokee Laredo has two oxygen sensors. 1.Upstream( before the catalytic converter) Jack up the driver side front of the car and use a jack stand and set the parking brake. Just under the car, driver's door, get on your back with a 7/8" open end wrench and take off the sensor from exhaust then disconnect the other end from the connector attached to the bottom side of the motor. Reverse directions for installation. 2.Downstream(after the catalytic converter) Jack up the passenger side rear of the car and use a jack stand. On your back with the same wrench(7/8" open end wrench) take off the sensor from the exhaust pipe and disconnect the other end from the connector(just follow the wires to the connection). Reverse directions for installation.
If you are not going to reuse the old sensors, cut the wires off of the sensor so you can slip a 7/8" box end wrench over the sensor. This will give you a better grip on the sensor especially if the sensor is in tight and the open end wrench slips off.
In the exhaust pipe, near the engine.
