You rock the engine forward to gain access to the rear plugs.
To change the spark plugs on a 2000 Malibu, you need to get a spark plug socket with a u-joint in order to access the plugs on the firewall side of the engine. The plugs up front are easy to get at, and don't require anything special. Word of warning, if your Malibu has relitivley high mileage on it (80,000+) and it still has the factory plug wires, there is a good chance that they will break on you when you have to pry them off of the plugs, go ahead and replace the plug wires when you replace the plugs.
how do i change spark plugs on a 2000 hevy Monte Carlo
Change the plugs and plug wires at around 100,000 miles or earlier if you detect a miss or loss in performance of mileage.
Use a 12" ext. With a universal (swivel)
There's three on the front of the engine(can't miss them), and three on the lower back of the engine, in front of the firewall
look in your owners manual but usually at 100,000 anymore.
Check your coil pack or the spark plugs.
Every 5 Years or 100,000 Miles whichever comes first.
i would like to know what would cause the miss firing in Chevy Malibu
if coils are taken off, then you can access the back plugs ok! coils are on a plate with 3 bolts holding it on to engine. this is the best way to get at back plugs on v6.
AnswerChanging the plugs is fairly easy. Just follow the plug wires. remove and replace them one at a time. I did both plugs and wire on my daughter's car and it was a PITA. You're working by feel and not much space to work. I'm 5"6' and only weigh 120 and I had difficulty getting my arms in between the back of the engine and the firewall. If you're easily get discourage and not have a lot of patience then take it to the shop.I have found a better way to take out back plugs on 3.1, remove coil plate, and coils. then you have more room to get at back plugs. coil plate 3 bolts,
go by the recommended mileage in the scheduled maintanence section of the owner's manual.
