It is a pain in the neck, you have to remove most of the parts covering the top left of the motor ( on the drivers side). The large hose that goes to the top of your engine is where your thermostat is located. There is a sensor in front of where the thermostat is located. After getting to the housing it is just like any other thermostat repair. Mechanics rate the labor time at 2 1/2 hours of labor. It cost me $325.00 to have it replaced at a shop. I have replaced many on older cars but this one involves alot more work and time than needed. Thanks to Chevy for a poor design! I'm sorry it's not alot of information but if you can get to it it's as easy as removing 2 bolts, replacing thermostat, cleaning old gasket and all residue from both sides of housing, replacing gasket, using gasket sealant and replacing the bolts. Torqueing to manufacturers specs, and putting all the parts back together. Also let the gasket sealant dry as recommended before starting the car. I would wait and check for leaks before putting all the parts back on top of the engine .

Remove the water supply hose from the top of your 2003 Chevy Monte Carlo thermostat housing. Remove the thermostat housing retaining bolts. Lift the old thermostat out. Drop the new thermostat in and reverse the process.
