Do this once engine is cool. Locate the thermostat housing on the front of the motor above the water pump. Two small bolts (probably 10mm) should be there; the one on the right is probably right beside the front engine cover. Remember to drain your coolant down first and then remove the thermostat housing. Once off, remove the old stat and clean the gasket area with a gasket scraper. Then replace the new thermostat with "copper pellet" side facing in towards the engine. Apply some form of gasket sealer to the new thermostat housing gasket (both sides) and tighten up the bolts. Refill with coolant and that's it.

How do you change a thermostate
There is supposed to be an engine thermostat . Do you mean that someone has removed the engine thermostat ? What year of Ford Ranger and what year ?
change entire housing. $100 part. sorry.
Remove the 2 bolts at the thermostat housing. The upper hose goes to the thermostat housing.
I had this problem before on a ranger you have to pull the dash board out and it will be right there.
The thermostat is done it has to be replaced.......
yes if the motors are the same.
