The Ford dealer has a way of checking the transmission fluid level from underneath the vehicle , I couldn't find anything in the 2002 Ford Explorer maintenance schedule so I would ask a Ford dealer . I know that on my 1995 Ford Explorer I've had the dealer use a machine a couple of times that pumps in new transmission fluid through the transmission cooler lines as the old fluid is pumped out
