Open the hose from the inport to the transmission pan and put an extension hose on it to a large pail. This will remove most of the oil from the torque converter. Other methods only remove 30 percent of the fluid because the rest remains in the torque converter. Start car and let natural pressure push out fluid to pail. Shut off after the fluid stops and unbolt trans pan. Clean out fluid there as well as the metal shards from internal magnet in the pan. Change the trans filter and clean off old gasket...replace gasket and replace pan.
Add new fluid to spec volume .. i think you should do this while it idles.
<I DON'T THINK THE ABOVE IS CORRECT> you need to stop the engine once the old fluid stops coming out of the hose. measure the volume (water is 8.15lbs per gal. so ATF is approx close to that) to verify how much you've removed.
Proceed with the pan cleaning. Then when you close the pan, you can add fluid and start-up at idle to process it into the tranny.
