The best way is to drive to the nearest auto parts store and have then check it. But you can check the voltage output yourself if you have a voltmeter. Set the meter to the 20 volt DC scale. Start the engine and connect the red lead to the positive battery post and black lead to negative post. You should read from 13.5 to 15.5 volts output from the alternator. If not it is bad.
