turn it on and drive 4 miles
The 3.8 litre V6 engine in a 1999 Ford Mustang has a timing CHAIN
Timing chain
as long as the cam timing is set correctly there should be no reason to check ignition timing because there is no way to adjust it anyway. if there is a spec it should be under the hood on a white label.
There is no adjustment for ignition timing.

No it will not. Unless it has slip so mush that it has changed timing. Check the ignition timing for your car, make sure that it's correct. If not you have to fix it ASAP.
look under the hood there will be a sticker that has the timing on it and sometimes special instructions
12º BTDC .......+ or - 2º
Mustang Timing BeltTo the best of my knowledge, Mustangs don't have timing belts: They use timing chains which ought to bring you to 300,000 miles. More likely than not you'd need a valve job or new piston rings before the timing chain gave out. can a 3.8 mustang 1999-2004 make it to 300,000 mile
It is an electronic ignition and is not adjustable.
I would check the ignition timing and set it to the desired specifications. Next I would clean the throttle plate.
Timing is set by the PCM and is not adjustable.
