Purchase a haynes manual that is specific to your car. It will be well worth the investment.

The shift lock actuator is on the right side of the shifter. When you press the brake pedal you can hear it move. If it doesn't move, then it could be one of several things, most likely the solenoid is bad, but you dont have to replace it, you can take a zip tie and it will stay permanently engaged and you can change gears even with the car off, but its better than having to use a screwdriver everytime you want to shift out of park. Below are a few pictures from a recent job I had to do. Also one thing to check is if your brake lights are working, if you press the brakes, and the lights come on, its not the switch, if they dont come on, then replace the switch, its more than likely your problem, and check the brake fuse as well.

Click on the link below in the related links section to see a picture of the solenoid and where to zip tie it at.

How do you check the shift lock actuator on ford 2005mustaNG?

If I'm not mistaken, the brake lights and the shift lock cicuit is protected by the same fuse, so if the brake lights are out, replace the fuse.

After replacing the ignition lock cylinder on a 1989 Ford Bronco how do you fix an automatic transmission that will not shift?

You replaced the ignition lock, and it will not shift out of park? If that is the situation, it sounds like the column is out of sync. More details are required to give a solid answer. A more common issue with these is the actuator rod in the column breaks. If you replaced the lock because it was turning hard and wasnt always cranking when turned, this may be your problem instead of the lock.

Your drive shaft is spinning but the wheel on your Chevy 4x4 wont turn when 4x4 is engaged?

If it has lock out hubs, Then you have a bad lock out on one side are the other. If it does not, Then the Actuator on the front housing is not ingaugeing. Need to check that with a test light. If it has power going to it , Then replace 4x4 Actuator. If no power then check 4x4 fuse in fuse box.

How do you remove and replace the door lock actuator in a 1987 Ford Mustang 5.0L?

You have to remove the door panel by unbolting the handle and then removing the panel which you can pull off if your brave or get a removal tool from an auto store. There is a bunch of little tabs that hold the panel in. Once the panel is removed the lock actuator sits near the rear part of the door, you will have to reach in to get it. It's held on by a rivet that will have to be drilled out to remove the actuator. After you remove the rivet reach into the door, disconnect the wire from the bottom of the actuator then remove the actuator from the rod (there is a piece that comes off the actuator and sticks into the door lock rod). Then to install it is the infamous opposite of removal. Good Luck!
