You can buy MAF cleaner at any parts store. If you don't know where the MAF is located it's between your throttle body and factory air box, it should be located on top of the straight section between the two. You will need a star bit to remove it from the line. If you have any further questions look at the forum newcougar dot org.
On a 2001 Mercury Cougar : The Mass Air Flow Sensor is between the engine air filter and the big engine air intake tube
Yes, there is an intake air temperature (IAT) sensor in a 99 coug. The IAT is located by the mass air flow sensor between the air fliter and the intake manifold.
I noticed thet you selected stalling as your problem. The emission code will not cause a car to stall. I think you need to clean the Mass Air Flow sensor and run a cleaner through the air intake.

how do you clean mass air flow sensor on a 1998 Nissan altima? To clean the mass air flow sensor , you need to get a can of CRC mass air flow cleaener frm auto zone, Kragen, Pepboys, Sensor is attached to the tube (next to airfilter). again you need to use mass air flow cleaner ( CRC ). I use this on my ford windstar and Nissan sentra 05 and 95. it runs better after cleaning the mass air flow sensor.
In a 1998 Mercury Villager, the mass air flow sensor is located in the air intake tube. The air intake tube goes from the air box to the intake.
It can not be cleaned. Trying to clean it will mess it up.
