How do you clean a pool that was closed with no chemicals and no cover I have removed all the leaves shocked the pool but water remains gray and DE fliter clogs?

Assuming that this is an inground/plaster pool.....

Before you even try to vac the pool you have to keep the chlorine level at 10.0 ppm until you can see the or nearly see the bottom. Remove the balance of debris, backwash the filter if D E or sand. Cart. filt. have to be cleaned manually. Run the clean filt 24/7. Empty the pump and skimmer baskets if needed. Re check chem and boost to 10.0 ppm adjust pH. Back wash again as pressure starts to build - maybe 5 #'s above clean press. Continue this process until water looks fairly good and you can see the main drain grate without difficulty. Then you can begin to vac the pool once you can see what you are actually vacuuming. After vac. the pool backwash or clean the filter. It may be a good idea at this pint in time once the pool looks clean to then dismantle the D E filter and clean the grids. You did remember to add fresh D E after backwash didn't you? Your filter will look like trash when you open it especially if the annual filter cleaning has never been done. Jeez, good luck. Would not want your job.
