- For removal of moss, fungal or moss growths, a product called Bio-Shield works very well as an outdoor cleaner (as well as being the most cost-effective at 85 US cents per liter.) I have been using it commercially for 26 years and found it to be effective in cleaning up any exterior surface that is exposed to rainfall. Once the affected surface has been cleared of lichen, moss or fungal growths, just respray it at the first sign of regrowth and it will stay clean.
It also helps if you can keep the concrete free of tree debris, which will promote excessive moss and fungal growths.
- There are commercially available concrete degreasers that will remove some oil stains. However, as concrete is porous, oil will penetrate deeply into the concrete and won't be able to be totally removed. Apply the degreaser and then water-blast to remove the surface contaminants. On tough spots, the undiluted degreaser could be left on overnight - covered with plastic to slow evaporation - and then water-blasted again.
What to avoid when cleaning concrete
It's not a good idea to use any acid on alkaline concrete - unless it is going to be coated or painted after cleaning. Acid cleaners will attack and dissolve the alkaline cement that binds the concrete aggregate together.
