The best way to do it is to identify and correct the issue which is causing the MIL to illuminate. Otherwise, it will simply come back on the next time the deficiency is detected. If you know it's a single count DTC which isn't self clearing, and don't have an OBD scan tool to clear it with, disconnect the negative wire from the battery for 1/2 hour to an hour.
