u could use a wirless reapeter, or an acess point
For a small LAN network, a switch is best. To connect two or more LAN networks, a router is required. (2) From Jean Andrews CompTIA A+ sixth edition (page #852): You can use a crossover cable to connect to computers without a switch or hub making it the simplest network of all. For two or more you will need a switch, hub, or router.
First, don't install the software that comes with the router. This is very important. Simply power up the wireless router. Once powered up, search for the default name for the router in the list of wireless connections. For Linksys, the network is named Linksys by default. You can change this later. Once connected to the router, you will be assigned an IP address. From the cmd window (Windows->Run->CMD), enter ipconfig. You should see the IP address as 192.168.1.101 (at least this is what Linksys starts with. The gateway listed below is the address for your wireless router. To connect to the wireless router, you can now enter the "gateway" address as described above into a browser window. Keep in mind that if you change the name of the wireless network name, it will disconnect your laptop from the network. This is ok. Just find the new name in the available networks and reconnect. Other laptops can connect too. They will be assigned a new IP address after they connect. For some reason, tech support for Linksys believed that an Internet connection was needed for their wireless router. They are clueless. Follow these instructions and you'll have your wireless LAN up and running in no time.
you can't...!
In a multi-access network, the router cannot determine the next-hop MAC address for the Ethernet frame without a next-hop address.
In a PC there is three pieces of hardware that could give you Network and/or internet connectivity. In most modern computers, the motherboard contains an Ethernet connection, so no hardware installation would be required, except for of course the motherboard itself. You would however how to install the network drivers for the ethernet on the motherboard for it to work. For motherboards without an Ethernet slot, you can buy a PCI or PCI-E network card, which contains an Ethernet port. Lastly, you could get a PCI or PCI-E wireless card, which could give you a wireless internet connection.
You need a Ethernet to connect the router to the networking box. All other things (except desktops) do not need a cord to connect to internet.
You will have to buy a card, or get an adapter.
you need an ethernet cable
yes you can.
Assuming that by CPU you are referring to a separate desktop machine, you can use a crossover ethernet cable to connect them directly
To connect to the Internet without Wi-Fi on your Xbox 360, you will need an Ethernet cable. Simple connect one end of the cable to the rear of the console and the other end to the router.
solved (not what i meant tho i went to another website)
Sure, just connect your RJ-45 ethernet cable directly into your broadband modem.
PS3 must connect to the internet with the ethernet cable or the WiFi. It was not designed for a Dongle to be used in the USB port
You will need to use an Ethernet connection in this case. Ethernet is a lot faster than a phone line. You will need a coax jack and a modem in order to have an Ethernet connection. For more convenience, you can just get an Ethernet wall jack installed if you don't have one yet, and you can just get an Ethernet cable to connect from the Ethernet wall jack to your computer, giving you a high speed internet privledge.
Most computers don't like it so much if you try to connect them together directly with an Ethernet cable. Your best bet is to purchase a router and connect both computers to that. Wait, without cables? If they both have wireless capability, you can create an ad-hoc network between the two. Otherwise, good luck trying to connect them.
Purchase an ethernet cable, either cat5 or cat6 long enough to run from the back of your PS3 to the Modem. If your modem has something already plugged into the ethernet, you need to unplug it and plug in the PS3. If you want to be able to use both without having to switch the plugs you need to purchase a router that you connect to the modem and then connect everything to the router.
