Greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide (CO2) are emitted whenever something is burnt. If this was something like dead leaves, which took CO2 from the atmosphere when they grew, then this does NOT increase the levels of greenhouse gases.

If it is coal, oil or natural gas (fossil fuels) that we burn, then we always release CO2 emissions. This adds CO2 to the atmosphere that has been hidden away for 300 million years. This is why atmospheric levels of CO2 are rising.

There is no way to control this emission except by NOT burning the fossil fuel. So we have to move to an alternative: renewable energy.

Renewable energy like solar, water and wind power is all pollution free, with no greenhouse gas emissions. All countries have to move quickly to renewable energy and stop burning fossil fuels (especially coal, which is the most polluting).

KYOTO Protocol

How can you use the term greenhouse gases in a sentence?

The greenhouse gases contribute to the greenhouse effect. Greenhouse gases are inescapable.

What can you do to stop the increasing levels of greenhouse gases?

Greenhouse gases are released in the atmosphere by the emission of factories, vehicles and industries. Therefore, one important step would be to capture these gases before emitting in the open air, like the polluted water is treated before throwing out in the oceans or seas. Another step would be to plant more and more trees so that they use the excessive carbon dioxide and in return provide us with fresh oxygen. Moreover we need to control the excessive and unplanned systems of industries. There are many other schemes like the Kyoto protocol that check the emission of these greenhouse gases by each country so we should support them and it should be a collective effort.

What is oxygens role in greenhouse gases?

Oxygen is not a greenhouse gas. It deceases the greenhouse gases.

What are the objectives of Kyoto protocol?

The purpose of the Kyoto Protocol was to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases across the globe. 192 nations have signed the Kyoto Protocol, though only 37 of them have binding carbon emission targets.

What gases are not greenhouse gas?

Greenhouse gases must have three atoms, so gases like hydrogen (H2) and Oxygen (O2) are not greenhouse gases.

How are atmospheric gases like the gases in a greenhouse?

The glass on the greenhouse stops temperature from leaving or entering like the gases do to the earth. The atmospheric gases are called 'greenhouse gases' based on the idea that the gases 'trap' heat like the walls of a greenhouse do

What does the greenhouse do to the gases from the atmosphere?

The greenhouse effect warms the gases in the atmosphere.

Is it possible for the ozone layer to recover from global warming?

Yes, it is possible for the ozone layer to recover from global warming. This can be done by stopping the emission of greenhouse gases.

What are the greenhouse gas emission figures?

Methane 16% -- Carbon Dioxide (Forestry and Industrial process) 76% -- Nitrous Oxide 6% -- F-Gases 2%
