I just did it 10 minutes ago. I couldn't find any instructions from the manufacturer literature or on the Ragazzi website, so I was guessing.

First I unbolted the four arms that hold the metal bed support up and pushed it down as flat as I could. I had to do it a couple of times and go kind of slow, to get the loose arms tucked away as best I could. They still stick up a little above the rest of the frame.

After much Wrestling with the wooden front panel (gate) of the crib (the one I need to remove), here is what I did.

1. Find the wooden piece that crosses the bed just behind the gate. This is an approximately 1.5-inch by 3/4-inch piece. On ours, it's just above and in front of the drawer under the crib.

2. Find the metal screw at one end of this cross piece. You will see that it is on the outside of the bed, on the short end of the bed, in line with the cross piece.

3. Unscrew it. Note that this screw actually threads into a threaded piece inserted into the cross piece in a little hole on the back side of the cross piece, about 3/4 inch from the end. If this little silver metal piece falls out, you will need to find it and put it back in the hole with the threads facing the screw hole. The piece is the size of a pea.

4. Anyway, use an Allen wrench to remove the screw, without losing that little inserted thingy.

5. I'm not saying this is textbook, but I then forced the end of the crib away from the rest of the crib while moving the gate up and down and pulling gently toward me (to pull the gate from its track). You have to move the end of the crib to create about a 1/2-inch gap before the gate will pop free.

6. The gate has two pins on each side, so when you get it freed on the site that you removed the screw on, the other side will come off without removing the second screw on that side.

7. I then got the drawer back on its tracks properly (it jumped the tracks a bit in the process), pushed everything back together the way it was, and screwed the screw back in. (if the screw wont thread, either you lost the aforementioned little silver piece, or that little silver piece is turned in the hold the wrong way)

8. With the gate removed, the crib (now toddler bed I guess) has four little tabs where the gate was once attached. Two I had to unscrew, and the other two I grabbed with a pliers and pulled out.

It wasn't elegant, but I certainly have an intact toddler bed now. (Unlike you ;)

Good luck!

The 2 sides are the footboars. So far I was able to connect them using dowels in the holes in the top and bottom of the footboard. I used 2 of the long screws that were left from when I took the sides of the headboard and used them in the 2 holes that go all the way through the footboard. You should get the idea when place them together. But I had these special bolts from another peice of old furniture that happened to be the perfect size to enter from ones side and the screw went right in. So you will have to find your own bolts and dowels. Now I have to find the right rails that will work and hopefully hold everything together.

What is the difference between a toddler bed and a twin bed?

A toddler bed is essentially a crib without the front panel or "footboard" of the crib. Instead, there is a panel or rail which is lower on one end and allows the toddler to climb in but prevents him/her from rolling out of the bed when sleeping. Most of the better cribs can convert from crib to toddler bed and some can even later convert to a full bed. Just use google images and type in toddler bed and you'll get lots of pics to look at to get a better idea of the difference.

Is there a crib available that will change into a toddler bed for when your child gets bigger?

There are a number of cribs that convert into toddler beds, but the Da Vinci Systems Emily 4-in-1 Convertible Crib actually converts from crib, to toddler bed, to daybed, to fullsized bed -- it can literally last your child from infancy to college.

Can a toddler bed mattress be purchased online?

"Yes. Toddler bed mattresses are simply crib mattresses transfered from the crib into the toddler bed frame. You may have better luck if you shop for ""crib"" mattress instead of ""toddler"" mattress."

Why should I buy a convertible crib?

There are many cribs to choose from on the market these days. Many parents are now opting for convertible cribs so that they don't have to buy a separate toddler bed once their child outgrows the crib. It saves you money when you can convert the crib to a toddler bed.

Does a toddler sized bed take the same size bedding as a crib mattress does?

Toddler Bed Mattress?

Yes, the crib mattress will probably fit in the toddler bed. Some crib mattresses are different size so it won't necessarily fit, but many people use their child's crib mattresses in toddler beds.

Where do you need a crib mattress?

You would most likely need a crib mattress if you have a small child who sleeps in a crib. You may also need one if you convert to a small toddler bed in which case you could also use a crib mattress.

Is a toddler bed the same size as a crib mattress, and does the bedding for either one work for the other?

Yes. A toddler bed mattress is the same size as a standard crib mattress. Many cribs are convertible and can be transformed into a toddler bed using the same mattress.

Where can you find the toddler bed conversion bed rails to a jardine crib-specifically Madison Lifetime?

You need the rails to convert the crib/toddler bed into a FULL size bed. If you only want to turn the crib into the toddler bed you have to remove the front piece and put up the small wooden guard rail that came with the crib. The directions for the changes should have come with your crib. If you do need the bed rails I ordered them through Babies R Us. It took about 6 weeks, but they said it could be as long as 12 weeks. The only problem is that one wire rod was missing and we didn't realize it until my husband was putting it together. Now I don't know who to contact. Thank goodness my husband is creative and used something else to help put it together. We had to do something since the crib/toddler bed was already taken apart! Hope this helps!
