This can be done through a method called " Dimensional Analysis ."

This method allows you to easily convert any unit of metric to standard or vice-versa.

This is achieved by properly setting up the coversion ratio's to cancelled the unwanted unit thus leaving the desired unit.

For example, Let say you have an object weighing 20oz, and you need to convert to pounds(lbs).

This should always take two steps:

1st. Understand the question( what are they asking for?)

Answer: Need to convert ozs to lbs.

2nd. Now turn that statement into a question:

How many pounds (lbs) equals 20 (ozs).

That's it, now all you have to do is write the question in terms of a mathematical equation or expression, ie:

How many pounds (lbs) = 20 (ozs).

Then find the appropriate conversion unit.

I just happen to know that 16ozs = 1 lb

Now set it up, take note of this part. This is how everything comes together in-order to cancel the correct units.

? pounds (lbs) = 20 (ozs)

? is short for ( how many )

We know that 16ozs = 1lb or [ 1lb / 16 ozs ] so multiply ratio( 1lb / 16 ozs) by 20 ozs so that the ounces cancel and lbs are left.

= 20ozs * ( 1lb / 16 ozs )

ozs are on the bottom or in the denominator so they automatically cancel out.

= 20 lb / 16

= 5/4 or 1.25 lbs

Now your question.

How many miles per second = mph

Let's make it interesting.

How many miles per second = 60 mph

? mps = 60mph

where mps = (miles per second)

? mps = 60 mph* ( 1 hr /3600 seconds )

* Note all we had to do here is find a conversion ratio of hours to seconds( 1 hr = 3600secs ) or equivalently ( 1 hr / 3600 secs), also, notice the miles did not need to be converted unless you were looking for meters per second or kilometers per second, then we would have to find a conversion unit for the distance as well.

Hours cancel leaving mps

= 60 m / 3600 seconds

= 1/60 or 0.0166666 mps

Hope this helped.

How would you convert a rate of miles per hour to a rate of miles per second?

Use this conversion: mph x 0.00028 = miles per second

How could you convert a rate of miles per hour to a rate of miles per second?

Divide the mph by 60. 1hr = 60 sec. If I drive 40 miles in one hour that would be .6666666667 miles in one second.

How do you write 62 miles per hour as a ratio or rate?

Use this formula to convert miles per second to miles per hour:mps x 3,600 = mph

How do you change the rate of light at 186282 miles per second what is the rate of miles per hour?

Multiply miles per second by 3,600 to get miles per hour: 186,282 x 3,600 = 670,615,200 mph

How do you convert a rate of y miles per hour to x miles per second?

y miles per hour = y/60 miles per minute (60 minutes per hour) y/60 miles per minute = (y/60)/60 miles per second Take y, the number of miles traveled per hour, and divide by 3600 to get the amount of miles per second. Example: 100 miles per hour --> miles per second 100/3600 = 1/36 1/36 miles per second

How do you convert miles to miles per hour?

You can't. Miles are length/distance and mi/h are rate of speed.

How could you convert a rate of 18000 mph to mps?

Answer: five 18,000 miles per hour = 18,000 / 60 = 300 miles per minute = 300 / 60 = 5 miles per second

How do you convert meters per hour to feet per second?

If water flows through a pipe at the rate of 360 L per hour what would the rate be in mL per second?

To convert from liters to milliliters, you multiply by 1000. So, if water flows at a rate of 360 L per hour, the rate would be 360,000 mL per hour. To convert from hours to seconds, you multiply 360,000 mL by 1/3,600, since there are 3,600 seconds in an hour. Therefore, the rate would be 100 mL per second.

If you run 5 mile in 1 hour what is your rate in feet per second?

If you run 5 miles in an hour, that means you are running 5 miles per hour. So, you first need to convert miles to feet. There are 5280 feet in a mile, so multiply that by 5. Then, to figure out how many seconds are in an hour, multiply the 60 seconds in a minute to the 60 minutes in an hour. Divide the result for the mile conversion by the hour conversion to get your answer. The answer should be 7.33 feet per second.
