A head gasket is a gasket the separates the cylinder head and the block. It separates the coolant passages, cylinders and oil passages. There are many other posts on this page that will provide more details. The head gasket provides a seal between the head and the engine block.

A head gasket set and new head bolts.
No. You need to remove the head(s) and have the head(s) checked for cracks and straightness, then install the head(s) with new head gaskets. Most head gasket manufactured are assembled dry, no sealants.
Some head gaskets come with a coat of "Copper coat" sealant already on it. You can use copper coat on a head gasket safely. I prefer "Indian Head Shellac" myself. Just be sure to completely clean the heads first, and apply the sealant liberally. If you use too much, you can damage your engine by the sealant leaking into the engine itself.
Answer making a head gasketThere is almost no engine that a head gasket is not available for. On the outside chance an engine is so rare that one is not available a 1/8 inch thick sheet of soft copper could be cut allowing for all the oil and water passages, bolt holes and cylindars. spray several coats of Copper Coat gasket sealer on both sides and hope for the best.
Has the motor been run? Come up to tempeture? If not and you want to take the risk then probably. If you insist on reusing the head gasket, spray it well on both sides with Copper Coat and over torque the head bolts 2-5 lbs.
It won't work. There is entirely too much pressure in the cylinders to seal up a head gasket... but many people have to try it themselves.
Definately use a new head gasket no question about it.. The only reuseable head gaskets are from full out race engines. Usually customed milled from a sheet of copper and most of the time reuseable for a set number of uses...
let Carm Coatings copper coat your part...
The Intake gasket is leaking, NOT THE HEAD GASKET. Replace the intake gasket
You do not repair a head gasket you replace it with a new gasket which requires removing the head.
The head gasket seals between the head and block. The head gasket is inside the engine, up high.
