I've done this myself, and the easiest way is to avoid processed, canned, and frozen food, and stick to fresh vegetables and meat you cook yourself. TV dinners, canned goods, snack foods, etc. all contain incredible amounts of salt in them. Even the "low salt" versions still contain an enormous amount of salt in them. Look at the back of the labels for the sodium content and you will see how quickly you can reach your recommended daily salt intake. I also like to use a small amount of sea salt on a few dishes I really like it on, because the sea salt is tastier and seems to go farther in small amounts than regular salt.

The best part is, if you cut out the processed, canned and frozen food, and eat mostly fresh, your tolerance for salt will go way down naturally, and pretty quickly too, and if you grab a bag of cheese puffs for example, and taste them, they will seem incredibly salty to you, unbearably, intolerably salty. And you won't want to eat them. That's when you'll know you've really succeeded at cutting down your salt intake.
