Be careful, the icon controls the folder or file it is connected to, if you erase the icon you erase the file!
Just click once, and hold the click, on the icon then drag it to the trash or you can just Right Click on it and select Move To Trash.
If you want the outside blank looking folder to have the same picture as the application inside of it.
If you want to change the PICTURE of the icon then Right Click (Option click) the icon picture you want the other oneto look like then select Get Info... then select the picture (upper left) to highlight it then go to the upper menu and select Edit/ Copy. You then do the same with the icon you want to change, Right Click, Get Info...,Edit/ Paste and then you have a new picture on the icon.
