An organism in which the genotype contains two copies of the same gene expressing the same character of a trait is called a HOMOZYGOUS individual.

An organism in which the genotype contains two different copies of a gene controlling the expression of two different characters of the same trait is called a HETEROZYGOUS individual.

The probability is 50%. There are four probabilities: dominant homozygous, recessive homozygous, or heterozygous.

What crosses will only produce heterozygous offspring?

There only certain crosses that will produce heterozygous offspring. These are heterozygous vs heterozygous, homozygous vs homozygous and heterozygous vs homozygous.

Are known as homozygous. Homozygous individuals can also be called 'purebred'. Organisms with two different alleles are known as heterozygous.

heterozygous

Can you please distinguish homozygous and heterozygous individuals?

When an organism contains two identical copies of the gene at a specific locus, it is known as homozygous. On the other hand, if it contains two different alleles, it is called heterozygous.

How would selection against heterozygous individuals over many generations affect the frequencies of homozygous individuals?

If heterozygous individuals are not favored, then the frequency of heterozygous individuals will decrease as the frequency of homozygous individuals increase. This can be shown using the Hardy-Weinberg equation for allele frequencies in a population: p2 + 2pq + q2 = 1 where q2 & p2 are the frequencies of the two different homozygous individuals (eg. aa and AA) and 2pq is heterzygous (eg. Aa). As the equation shows, if 2pq decreases, the other two variables must increase to compensate.

What is the type of allele that only effect the phenotype in the homozygous chromosome?

Recessive. Dominant alleles are expressed in both homozygous and heterozygous individuals (DD or Dd), but recessive alleles are only expressed in homozygous individuals (dd).

What are the names of the genotypes?

Homozygous dominant (Ex:AA) Heterozygous (Ex:Aa) Homozygous recessive (Ex:aa)
