I have a 1989 Ranger XLT 4x4 with 2.9l & auto trans. I have to push a button for four wheel drive as well as turn the knobs on the hubs to lock the front wheels manually. I'm not a mechanic but I do know often it's the simplest things that we overlook. Hope you've been helped by this response.
