Deleting files from your computer doesn't necessarily remove them from your hard disk. Most hard disks are Electrically Erasable Programable Read Only Memory (EEPROM),and it requires you either deleting and overwriting it, to get rid of data that was already there, or electricaly erasing data from it. To dispose of your PC, reformat the hard-disk and overwrite it with a new installation. Esuka Endeley Depends on how thorough you want to be. For starts the drive should be formatted. If formatting from DOS do a format c: /u to imply an unconditional format. This however does not guarantee that the data can not be recovered, just makes it harder. Another option would be to drill the hard drive. The hard drive will be unusable but in theory a person could still take the hard drive platters and get some information off of it. This would be a lot of work, but possible. The most sure way would be completely destroying the hard drive making the platters completely mangled and unusable and disposing of the platters in separate locations.
