how to test crank sensor
To test a 1995 Cavalier crank sensor you would need to get a mechanic's computer. They can put a sensor/fuse tester on it and see if it is working properly.
Answeryou will have to hook up a scan tool to see if you have cranking rpm with motor spinning over. rpm singal. also when you crank the engine the check engine light will go out if it is working
1991 to 1993 3000gt do not have a crank sensor. Only a cam sensor. And when does go out the car will not start or have a very irregular idle.
A computer diagnostic test will generally tell you if you have a faulty crankshaft position sensor.
Pull right front tire. Remove plastic from wheel well. Sensor is on block beneath the water pump and above the Harmonic Balancer.crank shaft sensor is under front of motor behind crankshaft pulley (Harmonic Balancer). some you have to take crank pulley off to access. wires unplug under car close to front. if you have help, someone can test wires with meter while you try to start engine. this will tell you i they are bad.
Using a scanner with a scope, you can view the output wave of the sensor as you crank the engine.
scanning for codes will indicate if the CPS is at fault.
They are easy to change. Here is an article on how to test them. Oil Pressure Sensor Testing 1. Test and verify the engine oil pressure. If no or insufficient pressure exits, oil pressure problem exits and gauge and sensor are operational, repair oil pressure problem. 2. Check the appropriate fuse before attempting any other diagnostics. 3. Unplug the sensor electrical hardness. 4. Using an ohmmeter, check continuity between the sensor terminals. 5. With the engine stopped, continuity should not exist. Ø The switch inside the oil pressure sensor opens at (6) psi or less of pressure. 6. With the engine running, continuity should exist. 7. If continuity does not exist as stated, the sensor is faulty.
that would come up on your on board computer, test it with a obd2 scanner an trouble codes will come up, if your car still runs they will test it free at auto-zone or murrays
The most simply way to check a crank sensor in any car is to get in car, turn key to start and watch tachometer (rpm gauge) if it shows rpms the sensor is good. If there is no tachometer then you will be in for checking wires. there should b a wire with 5 volts going into the sensor and with a test light if your lucky probe another and it should light up as the motor turns.
a continuity test is the checking of an electric circuit to see if current flows. That it is in fact a complete circuit.
