This is always tricky. If your starting a new project and have the choice, then put the stove pipe at the peak of the roof. This way you can simply cut a hole in the metal/sheathing and put the stove jack (flashing) on top of the metal roofing with the ridge cap covering the top lip of it. If you must install midway or at the eave of the roof, then extra special care must be taken to prevent leaks. Think about the fact that the water must always be directed down hill, and care must be taken to keep the water from siphoning back up. I use high quality caulk like Proseal or Lexel to make a gasket between metal to metal connections. There are also high temp rubber boots that can make this job easier. More expensive but fast to install. Follow the manufacturers directions and if in doubt, have a professional do the job. I have seen so many homeowner installed chimneys/flashing fail over the years. It results in costly water damage, stove pipe damage and at least a temporary loss of service with the stove. Good luck. I did several of these before I got good at them. Invest in several pairs of tin snips to make the cuts required to do the job.

How do you lay metal roofing?

To lay metal roofing in Austin, Texas, you'll need to follow a series of steps to ensure a durable and weather-resistant installation. Here's a general guide on how to lay metal roofing, with a focus on Austin metal roofing: Gather Materials and Tools: Metal roofing panels (choose a suitable material like steel or aluminum). Roofing screws with rubber gaskets. Roofing underlayment. Roofing felt. Flashing materials. Ridge caps. Safety equipment (gloves, safety glasses, harnesses, etc.). Roofing tools (screw guns, roofing snips, measuring tape, chalk line, etc.). Prepare the Roof: Remove the old roofing material if necessary and inspect the roof deck for any damage. Install a roofing underlayment and roofing felt to provide an additional layer of protection. Measure and Plan: Measure the roof's dimensions accurately to determine the number of metal panels needed. Plan the layout, ensuring that the panels overlap correctly and align with the roof's slope. Install Flashing: Install metal flashing around roof penetrations (such as chimneys, vents, and skylights) to prevent leaks. Start at the Eaves: Begin installation at the eaves, typically on the side of the prevailing winds. Attach the first metal roofing panel, ensuring it's square and properly aligned. Continue Installing Panels: Overlap subsequent panels according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Attach panels to the roof deck using roofing screws with rubber gaskets. Make sure to follow the recommended spacing and placement guidelines. Trim and Cut Panels: Use roofing snips or a circular saw with a metal-cutting blade to trim panels as needed for the edges and ridge. Install Ridge Caps: Install ridge caps at the roof's peak to create a watertight seal. Check and Secure: Periodically check the alignment and secure loose screws or panels. Seal any exposed screws with roofing sealant to prevent leaks. Clean Up and Inspect: Remove any debris from the roof and inspect the installation for any issues. Safety First: Throughout the installation process, prioritize safety by using proper safety equipment and precautions. Consult a Professional: If you're unsure about any aspect of the installation or if you have a complex roof structure, consider consulting with a professional Austin metal roofing contractor for assistance.

How do you install a kitchen exhaust fan flue through a standing seam tin roof so it doesn't leak?

Standing seam roofs can be a pain to flash penetrations sometimes because, invariably, the penetration usually lands on one of the seams (Murphy's Law?). My solution would be to have a local sheetmetal shop custom build a flashing for you. It may cost you a little bit, but not near as much as the damage you might incur down the road with a cobbled together leaky flashing. If there is no sheetmetal shop nearby, you might contact the original supplier of the roofing for their recommendation or a lumber yard who sells the roofing product line. If you do get a flashing and are installing it yourself, be sure you get clear instructions on how to cut into the roofing, how to set the flashing and how to fasten and weatherize it properly. Have all the right tools and safety gear for working on a roof. Another way to seal a penatration through a metal roof is with a product called a deck tite pipe flashing system. This is a EPDM rubber boot that fits over and/or arount the penetration. It is installed with sealant and screws through the roofing and has semi rigid metal collar that can conform the the ribs of any roofing. I purchase such products from a company called Dynamic Fastener.

why metal roofing is important in austin?

Austin has a lot of reasons to value metal roofing, and the area is becoming more and more popular with it. In the Austin region, metal roofing is a wise choice because of the following important factors: Climate Resilience: The weather in Austin may be harsh for conventional roofing materials. Metal roofing is incredibly resilient and can survive harsh weather conditions like intense summer heat, sporadic hailstorms, and torrential downpours. Because metal roofs are non-porous, water cannot seep through them, and they are resistant to wind and hail damage. .homeservicesnearme.io/metal-roofing-austin/
