Solution: Yahoo provides access via IMAP- That will not only read the contents of the Inbox, but also of all folders including the folder structure.
Settings in the email client:
imap.mail.yahoo.com port 993 (SSL)
smtp.mail.yahoo.com port 465 (SSL)
Security setting for the connection: SSL/TLS
Hope this helps to avoid many hours of research.
You do not need tools like YPOPS and FreePOPs anymore.
