Several items can be 'Dragged and Dropped.'

  1. Icons - Using the Finder, open the window in which the item is located. Set the view to 'Icon.' Click on the icon you want to use. There are several results you might want to accomplish:
    1. Move - drag the icon while holding the command key. This will copy the item and erase it from its original location.
    2. Copy - drag the icon while holding the option key. This will copy the item to the new location and leave it in its original location as well.
    3. Drag the icon to a new location. If the location is within the same user space, the icon will be moved to that location. If the location is in a different user space, such as an external hard drive, it will be copied to the new folder and also remain in the original folder.
  2. Text - Select the text you want to move. Carefully move the cursor to a word in the text. Click and drag the text to a new location. If you are within a document the text will be moved to the new location. If you move it on to the desktop, a 'text clipping' will be created on the desktop. The original text will remain in the document.

If you are not able to remember these commands exactly, you can use command c, x, and v. to copy, cut, and paste the items, without having to drag anything. If you make a mistake, press command z to undo it.
