To drain the transmission you have to drop the transmission oil pan. Make sure to change the filter while you are in there. It is inexpensive and will prolong your transmission life.
If the transmission has not been run with the water in it, then chances are you can drain, refill & run the transmission using a cheater hose instead of an oil cooler. Do this a few times then reconnect the new oil cooler & top off the transmission with enough fluid to fill the transmission & cooler circuit. If the transmission was run with the water in it, then you should disassemble & clean out the inside. Make sure to "pop" out the reverse & forward pistons to get the water out. Reassemble & fill transmission with enough fluid to fill transmission & cooler circuit. Answered by Scott @Marine Gear & Power systems, Ft. Lauderdale, FL. email: margear@bellsouth.net
There is no transmission drain plug. Your transmission uses the same oil from the primary. Draining your primary drains your transmission.
Under the transmission oil reservoir, across from the oil drain plug and on the braking side of the bike. (from bottom of the bike the transmission drain plug will always be on the braking side of the bike. The oil drain plug on the shifting side.)
The transmission oil drain plug on a BMW 3 series is an Allen plug, usually 17mm, on the bottom of the transmission.
