You can try lifting your naturally black hair with a Level 5 and mixing it with a 20 volume developer. This will give you a soft red tint. Choose a favorable red shade, as long as it is a Level 5. For example, a 5RB (Red Brown), a 5RV (Red Violet), a 5RO (Red Orange), etc. When applying the color, keep it off the roots (this is known as the "heat zone") during the first application- just apply the color to the mid-shaft and ends. Toward the end of processing time, apply the color at the roots.
