Correspondence: reality is (corresponds) with what is said about it.

Coherence: it has less to do with reality and more to do with the way an argument is presented, in the way the A is B, B is C, therefore A is C.

explain the correspondence theory of truth

What are the three criteria of truth?

The correspondence theory states that truth is determined by how well a statement aligns with reality. The coherence theory posits that truth is based on internal consistency within a system of beliefs or propositions. The pragmatic theory suggests that truth is determined by practical consequences or utility.

What truth theory is a property of a related group of constituent statements?

Coherence theory of truth states that truth is determined by the coherence or consistency of a set of beliefs or statements within a given system. This theory believes that truth is a property of a related group of constituent statements when they are logically interconnected and mutually support each other.

Which philosophical theory contends that truth is a matter of degree and a concept is true to the extent to which it fits together with what is already known?

Coherence theory of truth contends that truth is a matter of degree, where a concept is true to the extent that it is consistent and fits together with what is already known or affirmed. This theory suggests that the truth of a proposition is based on its coherence or logical consistency within a broader system of beliefs or knowledge.

Which philosophical theory maintains that a concept is true if it conforms to truth or reality?

Correspondence theory of truth maintains that a concept is true if it accurately corresponds to an objective reality or truth. It suggests that truth is a matter of accurately representing the world as it is.

Which philosophical theory contends that truth is a matter of degree in a concept is true only to the extent to which it fits together with what is already known?

Coherence theory of truth contends that truth is a matter of degree and a concept is true only to the extent that it fits together with what is already known. This theory emphasizes the internal consistency and logical coherence of a set of beliefs or propositions to determine their truth value.

Is 7 - 9 equal to 7 - 9?

To give an answer we first have to know what "truth" is. There are many theories about what is the "truth". I'm only going to cover the correspondence, coherence and consensus theories of truth and answer only in informations that are correct/true now (9th of December 2011 Central European Time).Correspondence theory states, that the truth corresponds (fits) to the actual state of affairs. That being said, 7 - 9 equals 7 - 9 if the actual state of affairs (in this case math rules and basic logic) say, that 7 - 9 equal 7 - 9.That means, that 7 - 9 does equal 7 - 9.Coherence theory states, that the truth is true, if it isn't in conflict with other truths. That means, that 7 - 9 equals 7 - 9 if it isn't with conflict all other familiar equations equal the same equations (for example 8 - 10 equals 8 - 10; 7 - 7 equals 7 - 7).That also means, that 7 - 9 does equal 7 - 9.Consensus theory states, that the truth is whatever is agreed upon (or might be agreed upon) by a specified group. That means, that 7 - 9 equals 7 - 9 if the group of people you (or I?) live with agrees, that 7 - 9 equals 7 - 9.I/Group of people I live with agree that 7 - 9 does equal 7 - 9 and therefore7 - 9 does equal 7 - 9 and if you disagree then you shall be anything from being ignored to being killed.

How many theories about truth are there?

There are multiple theories of truth, but some of the main ones include the correspondence theory, coherence theory, pragmatic theory, and deflationary theory. Each theory provides a different perspective on what constitutes truth and how it can be understood.

How is the truth found in science?

In science, truth is established through evidence-based experimentation, observation, and peer review. Scientific theories are continually tested and refined to ensure they accurately explain natural phenomena. Consensus among scientists further strengthens the reliability of scientific truths.
