Nearly everyone has asked a friend to pray for him or for her. "Please pray for me," or "I will pray for you" is a very Christian thing to say to someone. Catholics consider the saints in Heaven to be our friends as well, indeed, we consider the saints our brothers and sister in Heaven. To be able to ask a friend who is now so very close to God's own throne, "please pray for me," inspires great confidence, and we love to do this. Because of our love for the saints, our friends in Heaven, we keep pictures of them around, not to idolize, but in rather the way people carry pictures of their family and friends in their wallet, and have photographs of their family in their office and in their home. We like to remember those we are fond of when we can't see them. And their statues and pictures are in churches simply to remind us and encourage us to continue to ask for their prayers. If any of the saints in Heaven discovered a visitor praying before a statue with such words as, "Saint So-and-so, you are divine and can create good fortune for me," that saint in Heaven would certainly wish to lean down and whisper in their ear, "my dear friend, I'm afraid what you are saying isn't right. Please remember to address those sorts of prayers to the good God alone. I am only a creature just as you are, and it is my honor to pray to Him today, just as you do."
The religions images honored by Eastern Rite Catholics are called icons.

There is not a lot of images in a mosque to maintain prayers away from distraction during praying and let them concentrate on praying and worship of Allah (or God in English and same God worshiped in Judaism and Christianity).
Catholics do not worship anyone but God. Catholics do have images and statues of saints in Church and in their homes to honor the memory of certain saints. This is no different that a person displaying photos of the family or loved ones in their home or office, especially if those persons are deceased.
