Experiment. Newts are cold-blooded animals, and they do not need to eat as often as we do. Offer the newt food at times, and if it is hungry it will take it, and you will have an idea of how often it needs to eat.

Do not feed your newt plants. newts eat some kind of worm,fruit flies, SOME insects(i don't know which ones), SOME frozen foods(i don't know which ones).

Also feed your newt ABOUT every third day.(example:monday,Thursday,Sunday...).

I'm not an expert sooo that's about all i can say. I hope that helped!
