If you're using Windows 7, there's a search function on the start menu. Just type in the file name and it'll find it for you. In OS X, there's a search function on the Finder window. If the file was downloaded, in either Firefox or Opera you can right click and "View in folder" it to find where it is. If it were a MS doc or the likes, under the File tab, there should be a few "Recent documents." You can click on that to open it and save it elsewhere.
On Macs it is easy, use Spotlight.
