Each Branch centralizes their records in Different Locations. So, you would have to find out which Branch the inquiry is about and WHERE the location of their Records Facility is located. get ready for a somewhat time-consuming process as well. it can take weeks and months to get the appropriate documents filled out and submitted to receive records. When you're discharged from a Reserve component, you don't receive a DD-214 like you do on Active Duty. You will receive a simple set of orders stating you were discharged, and what the nature of your discharge was. These will often be mailed to you - particularly if you're not actually at your unit to have them handed to you - along with your 201 file and medical records. Other than that, you can request a copy of your records from the National Personnel Records Centre in St. Louis, but this route could take a considerable amount of time.
You can contact the Navy Department and request a copy of your service record, which will list all of your awards and medals. There are numerous places on line that will provide medals and ribbons and mount them in shadow boxes.
Your discharge papers are going to list all of the awards you have received. If you are still on active duty, your service record will contain all of the documents.
