Try drilling some metal with it. If it doesn't start cutting in immediately, it's worn. They can be sharpened much cheaper than buying a new one. - -Back when I went to school this was basic learning in shop classes.

-Of course, they forgot to tell me whether it was a 'class 2 ' lever or not, so maybe I missed out on 'real' learning. -LOL
