Write down the serial number and take it to your John Deere dealer.
Where is the serial# located on a John Deere 336 square baler
on the mower deck
The age can be determined. Take the serial number into your local dealer and they can look it up for you.
As far as I can find it has 35.93 hp [26.8 kW] at the PTO.
Try your local John Deere dealer, just by going to google you should be able to find one relatively fast.
Write down the serial number off the seial number plate usually on the back of the tractor and go to your john deere dealer who can easily tell you the year of your tractor.
First look and see if the decals are still on the hood of the riding mower, if they are there those are the number of your mower. If the hood and/or the decals are missing then you need to find the serial number, which is located either directly under the steering column, at the back on the rear axle, or near the front on the side frame.Once you have located your serial number, look at the number. It should begin with the Prefix M00 and then the model number of the machine. For example if you find this serial number (M00318X222001) you would have a John Deere 318. Hope this helps.
It can tell you the year of the tractor and if you want to find out all you can, have it researched at http://www.twocylinder.com/research.htm
Yeah this is the part of owning great tractors that really sucks...other people want to have your tractor because it's unique or it is consecutive to theirs so what do they do?? steal the serial number tag and put it on a different tractor saying that's what it really is. Another less fortunate situation is that the serial number tag was hit accidntally too many times and it just fell off. You can try to find out the number by contacting your John Deere Dealer and they can help you get a replacement from Deere & Company if you can verify its serial number by certain features it was sold with like special wheels or a cab or longer rear axle. It's a long way to find the truth but good luck!!
I would take a good guess that your tractor was made in 1969. To find out 101% sure, ask your John Deere dealer.
