How do you fix 1997 gmc k1500 transfer case?

Hey dude, it really depends what's wrong. The easy answer is to get a new one from the junk yard for $400ish dollars and have someone who knows what they're doing install it for you (3-4 hours of labor is our guess).

Here was our problem:

There was the sound of a stripped gear coming from the transfer case when we were in 2WD and pushing on the gas. So now, Sammy and I have ordered a $400ish one from the junk yard (just to be safe) and have taken the transfer case off of the truck by unplugging all the electrical plugs, undoing the lever arm, and detaching it from the crank shafts. We'll continue by opening the transfer case on a workbench to see if there are strip gears (which we suspect) or something else wrong that we can fix (maybe we can cancel our $400 order...)
