The emergency brake is stuck how do you get it to release I hit it several times to try to get it to release and it didn't work I don't know what else to do Someone told me it may be the fuse?

The emergency brake is mechanical not electrical. There is no fuse for the emergency brake. It is most likely that the brake cable leading to the rear brakes is stuck. This is quite common in vehicles with automatic transmissions because the e-brake (parking brake) is not used very often. As a result the cables get rusty and stick. It is also possible that the cable needs to be adjusted.

How do you cut an emergency brake line on a 1992 ford thunderbird?

Why would the emergency brake light in a 1999 Mercury Villager stay on after releasing the brake?

It can be the turn signal switch. Two possibilities. one: there is a switch that when depressed turns on the light, it could be stuck. I haven't looked for one on this car. two: your brake is not fully releasing as cable has gotten rusty. Look under car and see if you can give it a yank and it releases.

How do you fix a rusty brake drum or disk or sticking parking brake?

To fix a rusty brake drum or disc, start by cleaning the surface with a wire brush or sandpaper to remove rust and debris. For severe rust, consider using a rust remover or brake cleaner. If the parking brake is sticking, check the cable for damage or corrosion, lubricate moving parts, and ensure proper adjustment. If issues persist, replacing worn components may be necessary.

What causes a brake light to come on 1992 buick lesaber?

Brake fluid could be low. Check for leaky brake lines under the car also. Quite often older cars have rusty brake lines that leak fluid sometimes just a little bit but these should be repaired as they can blow apart when you hit the brakes hard and cause an accident. Check your emergency brake and make sure it as pulled all the way off also.

Steering wheel shakes when stepping on brakes?

You probably have rusty/scored brake rotors.

Why won't the calipers release after applying brakes on 1993 silverado?

Rusty and dirty calibers, rusty mounting points, rusty caliber slide pins, or contaminated brake fluid. Brake fluid absorbs moisture and I would bet yours is severely contaminated. Completely flush your entire brake system and replace with the proper fluid from and unopened can. Bleed the brake system and see what you have at that time. Replace the guide pins if they are rusty or pitted. Lubricate them with silicone brake lube. Clean off all mounting points with a wire brush, do not use a grinder. You may need to replace the calibers to completely solve the problem. Brake fluid should be changed every 36,000 miles at a minimum.

How do you release a stuck parking brake?

My Saturn had this problem for a while. What was causing it for mine was that the parking brake cables were old and rusty, and when the brake was disengaged, the spring (near the wheel) was not strong enough to pull the last bit of slack (up front) out of the rusty cable. What I did for a long time was a) not use it and b) when it did get engaged, jack that wheel up and manually pull the slack through the cable, until the wheel rotated freely. (Exactly how to pull this slack out will vary depending on your car.) Again, assuming that its caused by rusty cables (and not some other stuck part, which is possible) the real solution is just to replace them. In my 2002 Impala, releasing the stuck parking brake simply involved manually releasing a gear that sits just to the left of the break. Mind you, my car has a floor brake rather than a hand one, but if you're having similar problems, just grab your tire iron (if there's a wedge on the opposite end) or a sturdy screw driver, get down on the floor and look at the mechanism hooked up to the brake. you should see a gear with a bunch of teeth directly to the left and behind the brake petal, above this there should be another metal part that's locked into the gear. simply put a little upwards pressure on this with your tool and it should release. Be careful though! if you're parking brake is all the way to the floor, like mine was, it's going to pop back with a lot of force! Make sure all your fingers are out of the way otherwise you'll probably end up hurting yourself, like Note that this will probably only help in situations where your parking brake's release mechanism isn't working properly. If you have a rusty brake cable, i doubt this will fix the problem.

Why are rusty cars unsafe to drive?

The car is safe due to the strength of the body. If it is rusty the strength goes away quickly. Also all the brake and steering parts are mounted to pieces that rust also.

If a 190E Mercedes was not used for six months and you made the mistake of leaving the emergency brake on and now it is stuck how do you get it to release?

You could try "rocking" the car by going from drive to reverse a couple of times to see if the shoes will come unstuck from the drums. If you have disc brakes, the rotors are rusty, and should clean themselves after a few brake applications. If the calipers are frozen, then you will have to tow the car to a shop for repairs.
