ive just started my own saltwater tank myself, and my alkalinity is at a 5, well im tryin to get to a 3.5 or 4. from whut ive been told by alot of local pet stores, and Vets Pets, one of the best stores for saltwater, that the best way is to do a water change. anywhere from 10to 25% depending on the size of the tank.

for a aquarium what I do and im kinda new is take out a little water and add fresh water. Has to be fresh water from store that has reverse osmosis if I spelled it right. Make sure when you remove water to check the salt level.
