ensure that the indicator stalk is set in the middle when you turn off the ignition.
They are two seperate circuits. Check the fuses and the bulbs.
Just check your brake lite switch which is located at the brake pedal the switch might be broken that is why your brake lite is always on.

first id check the fuse if that's ok there should be a switch at the top of the brake pedal so when u press the brake the switch opens and brake lights work this is adjustable and may need adjusting failing that it could need replacing.Also be sure all of your brake light bulbs are not burned out. This can happen with any car (and happens fairly often).
