it was a common problem with the J30 engines, the repair procedure is simple, they remove the intake manifold and simply use a drill too remove the carbon build up and give it a good cleaning they also install a small tube to help it from building up carbon as fast.

Right ontop of the starer. you can remove and clean but you probably are going to have to remove intake manifold and clean all the carbon. check engine on my 2000 Honda accord v6 came on. codes read not enough air flow, change egr valve. removed and it really wasnt dirty.
