I have an 89 that occasionally gets stuck in the down position.
Use a screwdriver or a butter knife or a pen.
Poke down on the bottom half of the latch (not the top part on the hatchback above your head).
go to pisk a part and get a used one. If their is one there.
usually the locking latch in the door is in the closed position. try holding the handle in the open position and opening the latch manually.
Pull the latch.
on the latch there are two small bolts loosen them and move the latch up then retighten
The Pontiac Grand Prix door latch has adjustments to move the latch up and down and in and out. Loosen the adjustment screws. Keep moving the latch in one direction or the other, until the door catches the latch.
What kind of Pontiac? Bonneville, Grand Am, Grand Prix, Firebird, Sunbird, Sunfire, Parisenne, etc? You probably have a bad latch, replace it I just ran across this on my car and all I had to do was check latch alignment and align the latch
Can you give us a bit more info? Do they lock from inside the car OK? Do they lock from your key fob? Inquiring minds ...... FriPilot
I replaced the lock on my 2003 Suzuki Areio hatchback and now I find it is starting to stick again, I was wondering if this is a common problem with this model?
Answer: It took me a while to find it too. Its under the bumper. but as soon as you release that latch you have to lift the hood and release the second latch in the usual place under the hood.
A hood latch is the mechanism that holds your vehicles hood in the closed position while in operation.
How do you put the interior hood latch back on a 2005 Pontiac G6 mine fell off.
Bang the hood above the latch while someone pulls the hood release from in the car. Good luck.
