Fix the oil? You don't fix it you just change it every 50 hours.
Loosen the carborator and let the gas out, or just let it cool down
To fix a sticking float on an 18hp Briggs & Stratton engine, first remove the carburetor and inspect the float and needle for dirt or damage. Clean the carburetor thoroughly with carburetor cleaner, ensuring all passages are clear. Check the float for proper movement; if it's damaged or heavy with fuel, replace it. Reassemble the carburetor, making sure the float and needle seat properly, and then reinstall it on the engine.
Assuming the engine is bolted securely, then I would think it is indicative of a problem with the idle being too high and affecting the centrical clutch or just the clutch.
I would start with float sticking or maybe fuel filter plugged filter and run some good carb cleaner threw a tank of fuel if that does not fix your problem you may have to take the carb apart and clean it.

Take all the shrouds off remove the head bolt remove the head gasket clean off the dirt then reverse the process. Hope this helps
i have 8 hp horiz. Briggs leaking at the mail seal, flywheel side. I put a new seal on but it still leaks. I suspect too much crankcase pressure, maybe the breather is not open enough? anyone got some ideas on this? when I turned the engine by hand without the seal present, lots of air vented out the oil drain hole behind the seal. that is why I suspect high pressure. Is this normal? it runs great but leaks out the flywheel side main seal. ms
Take the air filter off and see if it runs without the air filter, if it does your not getting enough air and need to replace your air filter.
To fix a 3.5 HP Briggs & Stratton engine surging and cutting off, first check the air filter and clean or replace it if it's dirty. Inspect the fuel system for clogs, ensuring the fuel is fresh and the fuel lines and filter are clear. Additionally, examine the carburetor for dirt or debris, and clean or rebuild it if necessary. Lastly, ensure the spark plug is in good condition and properly gapped, as a faulty spark plug can also cause performance issues.

It also has to be getting gas. After turning it over a few times take out the plug and see if it's wet. If not it isn't getting fuel. Maybe need carb adjustment or new fuel filter or fuel pump if it has one. This may not fix, but it's a good place to start
A number of reasons: Loose electrical connection, bad coil, bad coil wire or bad plug. Try a new plug, it will be the cheapest fix. It could be a problem with the fuel delivery system, but I doubt it-if it starts right up, after cooling off. It could be overheating and not enough value clearance. Clean the grass and dirt off, around the cylinder and flywheel. That's cheaper than a value job.
