Check the engine mounts.

I have a 1996 cavalier and mine started jerking. I ended up puting a new cam in it. Itonly lasted about 3 weeks after it started.

Not even kidding, just got this problem fixed in my 96. Every single one of my motor mounts were shot, all because I lost two bolts on the highway. It cost me 200 dollars to fix, but the parts themselves were 150. It's better to invest in new parts for this instead of old as well. And if you absolutely need to buy old ones because you don't have the cash, ask the parts dealer how many miles are on them.
