In Manitoba vehicle standards says that if a sub frame is broken or rusted through to replace it.
Even though I'm not in Manitoba, I can tell this bit of story... 1991 Sable wagon with rusted through sub-frame. It was too late for the recall for this problem.
Being one who tries to fix before replacing, there was nothing I could come up with to effect a good repair.
So I agree: find a way to replace it. It's worth the effort to do it right.
