Hello everyone!

After 2 hail storms my parents recently had a lot of damage done to their pool and gutters/downspouts. The insurance company guy came out and looked at it but the amount they are willing to give my parents for the damages is like half of what it is going to cost. The insurance company offered $2300. But 2 estimates so far for the pool alone came in at $3500 and $4000! And that's not even including the $1000 deductible my parents have.

My question is, what can my parents do or do you have any experiences that could help because I don't understand how the insurance company can only give my parents half of what the estimates from companies in the area are offering?! Please help with any advise/suggestions!

Thank you!!

Do i have to use an insurance payout to repair damage when i am going to sell the house and have reflected it in the price?

If you own the home free and clear then no,, you do not have to make repairs. If you still have a mortgage on the home then yes, the terms of your mortgage contract require you make the repairs regardless of whether the home is for sale or not. When there is a mortgage involved, the decision to repair or not is our of your hands. it's up to the mortgage company.

What does adequate insurance mean?

The term "adequate insurance" refers to having sufficient insurance coverage with an authorized insurer to provide you with enough protection for the financial losses that you could reasonably incur. This includes damage or destruction to property that you own or lease, or damage sustained by other parties as a result of your own negligence. The amount of coverage that translates into "adequate insurance" depends upon the interest(s) that you wish to protect.

What is a policy in insurance?

An insurance policy is a contract between the insured and an insurance company. The policyholder pays a premium, and as long as the premium is paid and up to date, the insurance company promises to pay (cover) a certain amount of money if whatever is covered happens. An insurance policy will cover you from accidents, getting handicap, some can be to cover car accident damage or work accidents while others cover health.Types of coverage:In an automobile accident, liability insurance covers damage to the other car and any injuries to its passengers, whereas collision insurance pays for what happens to your car that the other driver's liability insurance doesn't cover. Comprehensive insurance covers other things that are not covered by the first two types of automobile policies. So if vandals ruin your pain or a tree falls on your car, comprehensive would cover that.A life insurance policy exists to help bury you when you die and to help your family to survive when you are gone.Health insurance covers you in case you get sick. There are different types of health coverage ranging from doctor visits, to hospital coverage, to medication.Homeowners insurance covers things such as fire, theft, vandalism, natural disasters, mold, water damage, etc., depending on the exact policy.Renter's insurance covers things such as theft, vandalism to the property that you might be held liable for, etc.

Why should someone get more than just house insurance when owning a home with property?

House insurance covers only damage to the actual house and contents. Additional insurance may be needed for outbuildings and other structures, such as fences. Liability insurance may also be needed in case somebody gets hurt on the property.

What are the negative effect of tornado economic?

The negative economic effects of a tornado are mostly local. When a major tornado strikes a city, the cost of damage and repairs can be enormous. There is also a cost of lost productivity as workplaces and businesses are destroyed or forced to close for repairs and as potentially hundreds are injured. Many people may not be willing to rebuild and will move elsewhere.

How does an insurance company determine if an auto is totaled?

Normally if the estimated damage is 75% of the value of the vehicle, it will be considered a total loss. The reason for this is that there may be hidden damage that only appears after the repairs are initiated. This varies, depending on your insurance carrier.

What happens if your insurance company has allowed more for your roof than the estimate who gets the balance of the money allotted in the claim?

The amount initially reserved for a claim is called the reserved amount. This is the amount the insurance company estimates through observation may eventually be necessary to repair the damage. The final amount paid could be less or more than the amount initially reserved for a claim. It is not uncommon for the insurer to reserve a certain amount and then wind up paying much more before all repairs are completed. The insurance company knows that once repairs begin, other damages could be revealed that were not readily apparent upon initial inspection. The bill could rise as the repairs progress. This is why it's usually best to let your insurer deal with the roofing company directly. If the company has sent you a check as final settlement, meaning that is all they are going to pay and they have closed your claim and you mange to get the work done cheaper than the settlement, then you are allowed to keep the balance. If the insurance company is dealing directly with the roofing company they will pay the amount of the final repair bill, not the estimate.

What happens to a car that's declared totaled by the insurance company?

If you want to keep a totaled car, the insurance company will determine the salvage value and deduct that from your settlement check. You can still get liability insurance (if there are no safety issues related to the damage), but not collision or comprehensive unless you have the repairs made.
