Answer:

First you start out by just giving them luke warm Kitten Replacer Milk (KMR). When the kittens are around six weeks old you can start adding little bit of wet cat food. As they get older and you start to wean them onto more solid food. Don't give them hard food straight away; use this:

Take some cat food and kitten milk. Put it all in a blender until it isn't clumpy anymore, then warm it for 30 seconds or less and then give it to them. After they have gotten used to it, gradually make it chunkier until they are eating solely kitten food. After that the kittens should start eating there food graciously. I have 5 6-week old kittens and I just started this recipe and it is cheap and affordable. They should love it and you could use leftover meat like cooked chicken or turkey as a treat.

Answer:

Kittens around six to eight weeks old can start to be introduced to solid food as this is around the time they start to be weaned off the mother's milk. Try mashing up some good quality wet/canned food (look for a brand with a high named meat content and no grain, such as Felidae or Blue Buffalo to avoid tummy upsets) for them. Mixing the food with a little bit of KMR (Kitten Milk Replacer) at first helps the kittens get used to solid food. Gradually, over the course of several weeks, decrease the amount of water/milk in the food as the kittens become more confident with eating.

Well, I might not be an expert; but this has worked with all my cats' litters.

If there kittens weaning from there mother, you should give them soft food first; there teeth are still undeveloped, and they've been eating nothing but liquids for the past few weeks. You have to understand; they won't be ready for solid food right away. Mixing wet cat food with kitten formula ((Most cats are allergic to regular cow milk, make sure it's feline safe.)) will give the kittens a little boost to try the cat food. Although they may just drink the milk at first, if you slowly begin to take the milk out of the cat food; they should eat more of the cat food, and less of the milk. It also seems to help if you heat the food and milk up, before hand.

Kittens moving to solid food should have there regular wet cat food mixed into the brand of solid food your trying to get them to eat. If its possible; dampening the solid food with milk, or some other way might help the kittens eat it. Within the first few days, you should have more wet food in it then dry. Slowly add more every two days or so, or within the time frames you see fit; depending how the kitten reacts to eating the food. Stop moistening the solid food after roughly three days, try to get your kitten used to the solid food before they actually have to put an effort into chewing. The goal is to have your kitten solely on solid food without having to mix any wet cat food in the bowl.

Hopefully I could be helpful?...

What kind of food kitty eat?

kitten chow or formulated food especially for kittens.

Can adult cats eat kitten food?

Yes, of course. The nutritional needs of an adult cat and a kitten are the same, its just the amounts that should be fed to an adult or kitten that are different. For the most part, kitten and adult food from the same brand are the same, or at the very least, very similar in terms of ingredients and nutrients. The biggest difference between the two is usually texture. Kitten food is usually softer in texture or has smaller pieces. Dry adult food pieces may be too big for a small kitten, but wet food can easily be mashed up in order to be eaten more easily. Some premium cat food brands are suitable for both adults and kittens and do not offer a "kitten" range.

How long do kittens need kitten food?

Strictly speaking, healthy kittens do not "need" a specific kitten food. A kitten can eat adult cat food at any age, provided they are fully weaned. The nutritional needs of an adult cat and a kitten are the same; it is just the amounts that should be fed to an adult or kitten that are different. Kittens will often eat more than an adult cat, as they are still growing and developing, and need to be fed "little and often" due to their smaller stomachs. Adult cats need less food than kittens, and most are comfortable being fed twice a day. For the most part, kitten and adult food from the same brand are the same, or at the very least, very similar in terms of ingredients and nutrients. Feeding a kitten on adult food is absolutely fine. If you are unsure about the current kitten food you are feeding, compare the ingredients between the the kitten and adult versions and see what differences (if any) there are. The biggest difference between the two is usually texture. Kitten food is usually softer in texture or has smaller pieces. Dry adult food pieces may be too big for a small kitten, but wet food can easily be mashed up in order to be eaten more easily. Premium cat food brands are suitable for both adults and kittens and do not offer a "kitten" range.

Can a lion kitten be fed meow mix cat food?

Lions should eat meat. Domestic cats and lions are not all that different; they are built to eat the same sort of food (meat) and to hunt prey. Meow Mix barely has any meat in it, so it is not really appropriate for a domestic kitten to eat and certainly not for a lion cub.

How do you teach kittens to eat food?

Well eating is more of a natural action for every living thing. Cats like the smell of food so you should buy some kitten food and put it in front of the kitten and it will probably know what to do. Or if not you can try to put some of the food on the kitten's lip and when it licks it's lip and tastes the food it will come back for more.
