There are two different coat types for the Parson Russell terriers, aka. the Jack Russell Terrier. smooth or rough, they don't change as the dog ages, you get what you got.

Do westies shed?
We own 2 West Highland Terriers. We enjoy them because they do not shed hair like a German Shepherd or cats. When they get dirty, we put a towel in their cage. Dog comes out clean; towel comes out dirty. We wash our Westies every 2-3 months and can attest to their overall ease of care. They reward you by being wonderful lap dogs and great fun.
