There are two different coat types for the Parson Russell terriers, aka. the Jack Russell Terrier. smooth or rough, they don't change as the dog ages, you get what you got.
The difference bettween a Jack Russell Terrier and a Parson Russell Terrier is the Parson Russell Terrier has Longer legs and therfore is not as stocky as the Jack Russell terrier, but because the Parson Russell Terrier has longer legs it is also a little faster Than the Jack Russell terrier. The Parson is recognised by the Kennel Club, it is a "pedigree dog" with a breed standard. The Jack Russell comes in many shapes and sizes, it is not recognised by the K.C. and has no breed standard. They both can have rough, broken or smooth coats.
Boston terriers are described to have a fur coat.
No, they aren't. Both coat types shed hair. This is not a recommended breed for people who are allergic to dogs. However, some Jack Russell mix breeds, such as Jack Russell/Poodle mixes, are hypoallergenic.

You would have to breed it to a wire coat ( W_ x ww ) and if there are any puppies born with a wire coat then you know that your smooth coat carries the recessive gene.

We own 2 West Highland Terriers. We enjoy them because they do not shed hair like a German Shepherd or cats. When they get dirty, we put a towel in their cage. Dog comes out clean; towel comes out dirty. We wash our Westies every 2-3 months and can attest to their overall ease of care. They reward you by being wonderful lap dogs and great fun.
Actually, they do! Don't take hem outside when it is ANYWHERE below 30f. Unless, you have them a coat or thick sweater to keep them warm.
A dog malts because its coat is changing for the different types of weather, i.e summer and winter.
